Rozi Siddiqui has been acting in stage, television plays and films for 34 years. His movie ‘Omar’ has been released this Eid. The movie was well received. Earlier, he got a lot of response by playing the role of Khal in the movie ‘Paraan’.

He spoke to The Daily Star about the new movie ‘Omar’ and other topics.

Your movie ‘Omar’ was released this Eid. Say something about it.

Rozi Siddiqui: I acted in the movie ‘Omar’ directed by Mohammad Mustafa Kamal Raj. It was released on Eid. Many other artists have performed. My husband Shahiduzzaman Salim acted. Here I will be seen in a positive role. I like acting very much. There was an opportunity to act. The audience has also taken it very well. Moreover, it is going to be the best movie in director Raj’s career.

Renowned actor Shahiduzzaman Salim is your husband. Tell us about your experience of acting with him.

Rozi Siddiqui: To tell the truth – acting with Selim is scary. It’s a matter of mind. Because he is a great actor. I think while acting with him, can I act properly? Is the dialogue going well? That’s why it’s scary. While acting with Selim, I feel like I fell into the tiger’s cage.

You won great praise for playing Khal in the movie ‘Paran’, how do you want to see yourself in the movie?

Rozi Siddiqui: I was in a new role in the movie ‘Paran’. I was a villain. The work fascinated me. The audience is seeing a positive character in the movie ‘Omar’. I actually want to act. I want to make a movie. I want to play any role. I don’t want to see myself in a certain role. I have been doing one job for 34 years. Cinema is a great medium of entertainment, it survives for many years. As an artist, I want to see myself in different stories and roles. Salim also wants me to work in movies.

What kind of movies do the viewers of this country want to see, what does your long experience say?

Rozi Siddiqui: Bangladeshi audience wants story in movies. They want to watch story driven movies. I want to be immersed in the story. The movie ‘Omar’ has that. ‘Omar’ is a family movie to watch. ‘Omar’ movie for all age audience. I played the role of the boy’s mother in the story of the movie ‘Omar’.

Are you still on stage?

Rozi Siddiqui: The stage is my love. I like acting on stage. That is why I am working regularly on the stage. want to do I have been doing Dhaka theater for many years. ‘Shakuntala’ is a popular drama of Dhaka theatre. With ‘Shakuntala’, I will go abroad for a show in June. With ‘Shakuntala’, I want to spread Salim Al Deen’s play all over the world. Besides, I did oriental drama after 20 years. I am doing the same role that I played in Oriental drama 20 years ago.
