It is almost the middle of Baisakh. The residents of South Bengal are counting the days in the hope that they will get relief from the intense heat of summer. But the Alipur Meteorological Office is still not able to give a relief message about when the storm will occur. From Wednesday, the heatwave will stop in Kolkata and some other districts in the south. The heat wave will persist in Kolkata till Sunday, said the Meteorological Office.

Orange alert has been issued in all southern districts till Sunday due to heat wave. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for severe heat wave in East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Bankura and West Burdwan districts on Wednesday and Thursday. All districts of South Bengal will continue to experience heat wave along with intense heat and uncomfortable weather till Sunday.

While some areas of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri districts are likely to experience light rain on Thursday and Friday, other northern districts will not be spared from the heat wave. Heat wave is forecast in two Dinajpur districts besides Maldah from Wednesday to Sunday.

The maximum temperature in Kolkata is likely to touch 40 degree Celsius on Wednesday due to heat wave. The maximum temperature in Kolkata was 39.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Which is three degrees higher than normal. Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Which is three degrees higher than normal.
