Apple is going to launch their new iPad models very soon. There is already a lot of information floating around the internet about the tablets. And now, a source claims, the display of the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air is going to come with a significant upgrade. Apple also claims that this move will bring the iPad Air closer to the high-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro in terms of display technology.

Currently, the standard 10.9-inch iPad Air model includes a traditional LCD panel. Display analyst Ross Young reported that the new iPad Air is expected to use mini-LED technology, which will increase brightness for HDR content, display deeper blacks for improved contrast, and lower power consumption for improved battery life. It’s similar to the technology currently used in Apple’s top-tier 12.9-inch iPad Pro models and MacBook Pro laptops.

Although, the specifics of the display of the 12.9-inch iPad Air have not been confirmed, it will likely match the specifications of the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro. That is, it can feature a 2D backlight system with full-array local dimming zones, a resolution of 2732 x 2048 (264 ppi), support for Promotion Adaptive Refresh Rate technology, and a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits for HDR content.

Notably, while the upcoming iPad Air model is set to get a mini-LED upgrade, Apple is rumored to offer next-generation OLED display technology for the upcoming iPad Pro. These new iPad Pro models will be powered by the M3 chip and support the new Apple Pencil 3 stylus. Apple plans to launch the new tablets probably in the second week of May without a dedicated press conference.
