According to the data, the maximum temperature in Kolkata reached 41.7 degrees in April 1980. In 2016, 2018 and 2023, Kolkata’s temperature touched 41 degrees. But it was temporary. But this year, the temperature has been in the 40s continuously since mid-April. Which has not seen such weather in the city in the last 50 years.

According to the information of the Meteorological Office, the temperature of the city is currently 41 degrees Celsius. On April 14 this year, the temperature in the city was 41 degrees. Since then, the temperature in Kolkata has been continuously above 40 degrees. The temperature in the city touched 41.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday. On Sunday it decreased to 41 degrees. But not only Kolkata, the temperature has increased excessively in South Bengal of the state as well.

From Sunday, a red warning of heat wave has been issued in several districts including East Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, West Burdwan, Birbhum. Right now the temperature in Bankura has reached 44.7 degrees. The temperature in Kalaikunda crossed 43 degrees. Around 45 degrees in Panagad.

Besides, orange alert has been issued in all the other districts of South Bengal including Kolkata for the next few days. Yellow alert is in place in Malda and Dinajpur. As a result, there is no escape from the uncomfortable heat, meteorologists say. They said that this situation will continue till the end of April.

However, Delhi’s Mausam Bhavan said that between Monday and April 23, Kolkata’s temperature may drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius to settle at 38-39 degrees. But from April 24, unbearable heat will increase again in Bengal.

However, despite the heat wave and fear of heat wave, the Meteorological Department has spoken about the possibility of rain. Relief rains may fall in the districts along the Gangetic coast from next Wednesday. Rain with thunder may occur in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, East and West Burdwan, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura and Birbhum. Gusts of 30 to 40 km speed may also blow.
