Utpal Kumar Sarkar, 35, a teacher, died after being hit by a cricket stump of a 17-year-old student of his institution. The deceased Utpal was teaching at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Chitrashail of Ashulia and was also the head of the disciplinary committee of the institution. When the news of his death spread, the students staged a protest procession.

What happened that day
Teachers and students who witnessed the incident said that a girls’ cricket tournament was going on at Haji Yunus Ali School and College ground on Saturday. At that time, Utpal was in charge of managing the game on the field. At around 2.30 pm, the talented student of the school took a cricket stump in front of everyone and started hitting Utpal on the head and abdomen. Utpal bled before he understood the matter. She was rescued and first taken to the local Women and Children’s Center Hospital. When his condition deteriorated there, he was admitted to the ICU of Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. Abdominal surgery is performed. 16 bags of blood are given to the body. Utpal left for the land of no return around 5:30 am yesterday.
Saiful Hasan, principal of Haji Yunus Ali School and College, said, ‘Girls cricket was going on in our school. At noon, the student suddenly hit Utpal, a teacher standing on one side of the field, with a cricket stump. The teacher was hit in the head by a stump. ‘
The principal said Utpal Sir is the chairman of the school’s disciplinary committee. She counsels students on various behavioral issues, including asking them to cut their hair at different times. He also tried various crimes. Maybe for some reason the student was angry with that teacher.

The talented student is the son of Ujjwal Haji, nephew of Haji Hazrat Ali, the owner of the educational institution. He is a 10th class science student of the school. After the attack, teachers and students detained him but his family rescued him. After that the student ran away. They went to their house in Chitrashail area yesterday and found no one including their parents.
Relatives want justice
Relatives including Utpal Kumar’s brother and wife Beauty Rani rushed to the hospital after the incident. But Utpal never returned. In no way can they accept such a death.
Utpal Kumar Sarkar got married to beauty queen Nandi two years ago. The wife works in the government. Utpal was living with his wife in Mirpur, Dhaka. Beauty Rani said with grief and regret, ‘Utpal goes to college in Ashulia from home on Saturday morning like every day. Later in the afternoon I got the news that Utpal had been attacked. When I came to the hospital, I saw that my husband had no knowledge. There are frozen bodies in the ICU. I want to hang the attacking student. Cases against a few
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, the day after the incident, Utpal Kumar’s brother Asim Kumar Sarkar filed a case with the Ashulia Police Station accusing the accused student and several other unidentified persons. Utpal Kumar’s body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy. After the autopsy, the family will take the body to his village home in Sirajganj. The funeral is to be held there.
In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District Humayun Kabir said that the injured teacher died. A case has been registered in this regard. An operation is underway to arrest the accused student. Hopefully he will be arrested soon.

Strict action if not arrested
Haji Yunus Ali School and College was declared closed after Saturday’s attack. Hundreds of students gathered in front of the educational institution at noon when the news of the death of teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar spread yesterday. The campus became abuzz with the procession of agitated students. They chanted slogans. After losing their favorite teacher, the students took position on the road. The students also announced that the protest would continue till the student was arrested. Teachers also took part in the students’ protest.

He used to discipline the students at different times for breaking different rules and regulations and eve teasing or love affairs. This is sir’s job. Sir ruled that student for his bravery. Out of that anger he publicly attacked Sir. He was arrested at the time. But his influential family forcibly took him away. Even after the beating, the student was seen walking around the educational institution in the evening. We want justice for this murder. If we cannot arrest the student within the next 24 hours, we will go for a strict program. ‘
The speechless mother cried in the village house
Ullapara (Sirajganj) correspondent said the deceased lecturer Utpal Kumar Sarkar’s village home is in Elangjani village of Lahiri Mohanpur union of Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj. As a child, his father lost to Ajit Sarkar. He passed undergraduate and postgraduate courses in political science from Chittagong University in spite of scarcity. Utpal started his career as a lecturer in Haji Yunus Ali School and College in 2013.
When the news of Utpal’s death reached the house in Elangjani village, a heartbreaking scene unfolded. Utpal’s old mother Gita Rani and other relatives and neighbors of the family became heavy with tears. The mother became speechless while crying. She can’t handle the grief of losing her child prematurely.
