Awami League candidate for Chittagong district council election will be finalized today (Saturday). To finalize candidates in 61 districts across the country, a joint meeting of the party’s Parliamentary and Local Government People’s Representative Nomination Board will be held at Ganobhaban at 4 pm.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over this meeting.

It has been reported that 17 leaders of the Awami League chairman candidates have collected party nomination papers in this year’s Zilla Parishad elections. Various speculations are going on among the local leaders and activists whether someone from Chittagong North District or South District is coming in the election.

The leaders who collected the nomination papers are – Administrator of Chittagong District Council and North District Awami League President Md. Abdus Salam, General Secretary Sheikh Ataur Rahman, Vice President Prof. Mainuddin, ATM Payrul Islam, Advisor Vir Muktijoddha Abul Hasem, Raujan Upazila Parishad Chairman AKM Ehechanul Haider Chowdhury Babul, North, Victory Mela Udjaj Parishad General Secretary Muktijoddha Mohammad Yunuch.

There are also – South District Awami League Vice President Abul Kalam Chowdhury, South District Awami League Member Abu Sufian, Patia Upazila Parishad Chairman Motaherul Islam Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Ravi, Organizational Secretary Pradeep Das, Agricultural Affairs Secretary Add. Abdur Rashid, Awami League leader Lion Shamsul Haque, Md. Idris, Abu Saeed and former student leader. Osman Gani Chowdhury collected party nomination papers.

According to the leaders and activists, North District Awami League President M. A. Salam is ahead in the nomination race this time as well. Although this time several members of his own committee challenged Salam.

However, due to record development and clean image in the history of Zilla Parishad, M. A. Salutations are heavy. Even then, two parties from the North and South districts have entered the field to stop him.

On the other hand, it is said that efforts are being made to create a new constituency in South District Awami League. Some of the leaders here have started campaigning vigorously to get the nomination.

South District Awami League General Secretary Mofizur Rahman’s name was heard but in the end he did not collect the nomination papers.

Activists claim that four members of Parliament have given a DO letter to Awami League Chairperson Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to nominate a leader of South District Awami League for the post of chairman.

A number of senior leaders of the party said, in the Chittagong district council elections, in terms of party nomination for the post of chairman, Awami League presidium member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. The choice of Hasan Mahmud and Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed will be important.
