A few days ago, Meta launched its AI chatbot model Meta AI on its messaging app WhatsApp. Although, Meta has so far only released it to select beta users, but a few days after the release of Meta AI, Meta also launched Llama-3, which the company describes as Meta AI’s companion chat model. Now, right after introducing Meta Meta AI and Llama-3, Microsoft has launched the latest version of its lightweight AI model Phi-3-mini.

According to reports, it is believed that the Fee-3-mini is the first of three smaller models that Microsoft plans to release. This model has been reported to perform better than its similar-sized and larger-sized models in various criteria such as language, coding, logic and mathematics.

Phi-3-mini is a 3.8b language model. It is available in AI development platforms like Microsoft Azure AI Studio, HuggingFace and Ollama.

Phi-3-mini is an SML. Simply put, SLM i.e. Small Language Model is a more organized model than LLM i.e. Large Language Model. SMLs i.e. Small Language Models cost less to develop and maintain and they perform well even on small devices like smartphones and tablets.
