A young man named Shaon (20) was killed in a police clash with BNP activists in Narayanganj. It is said that the deceased Shaon was a Youth Dal worker. At least 20 people including the police were injured in this incident.
The incident took place on Thursday (September 1) morning when the police stopped the BNP procession at the Railgate area of the city.
It was initially reported that the deceased Shaon Fatulla was a member of Thana Juba Dal.
The seriously injured in this incident have been taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital for treatment. Among them – Md. Badal Bhuiyan (35), Nabir Hossain Navin (30), Md Russell Pradhan (30), Jewel Arman (40) and Md. Farooq (30) has been identified.
It is known that on the occasion of the founding anniversary of the party, on Thursday morning, Narayanganj district, BNP and other party leaders and activists came out with a procession in the city. When the procession reached Railgate No. 2 area, they were stopped by the police. BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police at one stage.
At that time, the police fired tearshells and fired to control the situation. Many were injured. Six people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and one named Shaun was declared dead by the doctor.
Narayanganj General Hospital emergency department doctor Nazmul Hossain Vipul confirmed the matter and said that a bullet mark was found in the chest of the deceased Shawon. The remaining five have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
Superintendent of Police of Narayanganj Golam Mostafa Russell said that they were trying to create chaos on the road by marching without prior permission. When they tried to move them away, they started throwing bricks and throwing cocktails at the police. At this time, the police also fired tearshells and rubber bullets in self-defense.
The Superintendent of Police also claimed that around 10-12 members of the police were injured and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
