State Education Minister Begum Shamsun Nahar said that the government is taking and implementing various initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to meet the demand of non-vegetarians by enriching livestock. As a result of these initiatives, besides meeting the food demand in the country, people’s health has also improved. The government is taking a strict stand to preserve wildlife habitats and biodiversity. Everyone should be more aware to protect wildlife.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest of the international conference on organic resources at Dhaka University (DU) on Friday (April 26).

The conference was held as a joint initiative of Zoology Department of the University and Bangladesh Zoological Society. Besides, the Annual General Meeting of the Zoological Society was also held.

In the president’s speech, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar emphasized on the proper use of animal resources in poverty alleviation and building a developed and prosperous country and said that teachers, researchers, students and related parties should work together in new innovations. Animal health protection is also very important in livestock enrichment. That’s why everyone should be more aware in the use of antibiotics. This conference will play a helpful role in the socio-economic development of the country through conservation of biodiversity and production of healthy livestock.

Winners of zoology olympiad held nationwide were awarded in the conference. Fairuz Humayara Itu, a student of Zoology Department of Dhaka University, became the champion at the graduate level and Nafsi Montainna, a student of Zoology Department of Rajshahi University, was the runner-up.

Chief Forest Conservator of Bangladesh Forest Department in the conference. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Director General of Directorate of Fisheries Syed Md. Alamgir, Jahangirnagar University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mustafa Feroz, Dhaka University Zoology Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Shefali Begum, Chairman of the Department of Fisheries Professor Dr. Mohammad Roknuzzaman, President of Bangladesh Zoology Association Professor Dr. Hamida Khanom, General Secretary Prof. Dr. Md. Lokman Hossain, Vice President Dr. Tapan Kumar Dey, President of ACI Agribusiness. FH Ansari and Mukid Majumdar Babu, Chairman of Prakriti and Jeevan Foundation spoke.

Apart from this, Dr. Dhaka University Institute of Health Economics presented the main article in the conference. Syed Abdul Hamid. Academicians, researchers, students and professionals of the country and abroad participated in it.
