The Enforcement Unit of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) raided Uttara, Chandpur, Feni and Noakhali regional passport offices in Dhaka. The picture of irregularities and corruption in the offices has been seen in the raid.
On Thursday (April 25), four joint operations were conducted simultaneously from ACC team head office, integrated district office Chandpur and Noakhali in Dhaka. According to the ACC, this information is known.
The operation was conducted by the enforcement team from the ACC head office based on allegations of collusive bribery for information correction and renewal at the passport personalization center in Uttara.
It is learned that during the operation, the enforcement team interrogated the accused person and seized his mobile phone. Analysis of the data of the seized mobile phones initially found the truth of the allegations. A detailed report will be submitted to the commission after further analysis of the information collected and the seized mobile phone.
Another raid was conducted from ACC’s Chandpur district office to the passport office of the district. The enforcement team goes undercover to monitor office activities and collect information. During the observation, it appeared to the team that two Ansar members of that office demanded extra money for providing services.
Later, the team seized the mobile phone of the complainant after finding unusual transactions and suspicious information on his mobile phone. In view of this, a detailed report will be submitted to the commission after reviewing the records collected in the raid and the forensic report of the seized mobile phones.
In the same way, the enforcement team also raided the passport office in Noakhali. They collect information related to the complaint by having customer conversations with the customer and other employees of the office under cover of anonymity. Preliminary observations revealed to the team that passport services were being provided through illegal financial transactions in collusion with the local brokers and the complainants and some employees of the head office.
In this regard, the team spoke to the head of the office and other officials and collected the relevant records. It is informed that a detailed report will be submitted to the commission after analyzing the collected information and other records.
Besides, another operation was conducted against the officials of the regional passport office of Feni in view of complaints of customer harassment and bribery in providing passport services. Another enforcement team conducted the operation from the Integrated District Office of the Anti-Corruption Commission Noakhali.
In the raid, the team got the preliminary evidence of the collusion of the brokers with some of the employees of that office. Some mobile phones related to the complaint were seized for further analysis in this regard. A full report will be submitted to the commission after analyzing the data of the seized phones.
