PBI has arrested SM Asaduzzaman (52), one of the accused in the case filed in connection with the death of retired Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) officer Syed Mohammad Shahidullah in police custody at Chandgaon police station in Chittagong city.
He was arrested from Mozaffar Nagar area under Bayezid Bostami police station of the city around 11:30 am on Thursday. Arrested Asaduzzaman is a resident of Chandgaon police station area.
PBI Chittagong Metro Unit Inspector Md Ilyas Khan said that the accused SM Asaduzzaman was arrested in connection with the death of retired ACC officer Syed Mohammad Shahidullah under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act.
On October 16 last year, Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr. Fauzia Anwar, wife of victim Shahidullah, filed the case in Begum Zebunnechar court. Then on the night of October 3, Shahidullah was arrested from his home by the Chandgaon police station of the city by showing a court warrant. After being taken to the police station, the victim Shahidullah was tortured. At one point, Syed Mohammad Shahidullah died within a few hours. However, the case filed by the ACC officer as a fake maid was later withdrawn by the plaintiff Tanya as a false case.
