Chittagong University: Ashikuzzaman Joy is a follower of Chittagong University (CHB) branch Chhatra League’s sub-group Vijay. Last Monday (April 22) around 11 pm, he was beaten by his party workers.

Ashiq said that he was beaten by questioning why he had a bad relationship with the leader of a section of Vijay Group, Mohammad Ilyas. However, soon after this, several pictures of Ashiq drinking alcohol were spread on social media.

The 6 BCL workers who were beaten were students of the public administration department of the 2018-29 session. Faisal Mia (Atish Faisal), Tanay Kanti Sarkar, a student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture, Shakeel Ahmed of the Department of Development Studies and Russell Raj of the Department of Botany).

They claimed that they attacked him because of drunkenness and drunkenness. Before this, despite trying to explain repeatedly, Ashiq got into an argument with his friends.

Meanwhile, Ashikuzzaman, a student of the 2018-19 academic year of Chabi statistics department, who was beaten, lives in room 440 of AF Rahman Hall. The day after the beating (April 23), several foreign brands of liquor bottles and various drug-taking equipment were seen in the BCL worker’s room.

It is alleged that Ashiq is regularly involved in drug use and dealing. After the beating, Ashiq’s drug involvement was brought up by his classmates to cover up the incident. But not only that, the names and identities of several others have been confirmed through the students and BCL followers in that hall. Who is known for taking drugs and getting drunk all over the hall.

Among them are Mujahid Chowdhury, a student of the 2015-16 academic year of the Sanskrit Department, Md., a student of the 2016-17 academic year of the History Department. Palash Chowdhury, Marketing Department 2017-18 academic year student Mahim Hossain, Public Administration Department 2018-19 academic year student Arshil Azim Niloy, Drama Department 2018-19 academic year student Md. Awal Hossain Sohag, 2019-20 academic year student of Anthropology Department Shoaib Atiq, 2019-20 academic year student of History Department Zubair Rabbi, 2019-20 academic year student of Sociology Department Mohammad Nazmul, 2020-21 academic year student of International Relations Department Abdullah Faruqi, Islamic History and Culture Department 2020-21 academic year student Nahidul Islam and 2021-22 academic year student Shubo Das Rohit of Sanskrit department.

Due to the lack of allocation of hall seats for a long time, the violence of drug addicts has increased in the residential halls of the university. And so there is often the sale of drugs. If you raise your hand in the campus, you will find various domestic and foreign drugs including ganja, phencidil, heroin, yaba. Room 440 was one of the 4 rooms in Chabir AF Rahman Hall where the most number of drug sessions took place. Apart from this, drug sessions are held regularly in rooms 434, 334, 335 and 337.

After the photo of Chhatra League activist Ashikuzzaman drinking alcohol came to light, his classmates claimed that drug parties often took place in Ashiq’s room. He used to hold drug sessions with batchmates and juniors in his room.

Several of his classmates said that Ashiq was involved in drug dealing at AF Rahman Hall. He used to bring drugs from different places and supply them to the campus. As he himself was an alcoholic, he was spreading the disease among the juniors in the hall.

They also said, ‘He used to consume all types of drugs, starting from alcohol and cannabis. A few days ago he brought many bottles of liquor from Betbunia. He built a drug empire. He used to take drugs himself and supplied them to others. So we tried to warn him. But on the contrary he misbehaves with us.

Accused Ashikuzzaman Joy’s mobile phone was tried several times to inquire about the drug connection, but he did not respond.

Provost Prof. Dr. AF Rahman Hall. Ali Arshad Chowdhury told Banglanews that after a student named Ashiq was beaten last night, I came to know that he was beaten by his classmates because he was involved in drugs. But if someone is involved in drugs, they should have informed the authorities about it. The next day (April 24) I found 2 resident teachers in the hall going to room 440 and seeing some liquor bottles there. Initially the room is sealed.

There is no Ashiq Hall. If he wants to come up to this room, we will talk to him. There are no exemptions for drugs. Actions will be taken as per rules if evidence of drug involvement is found.

University proctor professor Dr. Mohammad Ahidul Alam told Banglanews that the Provost has been asked to investigate whether Ashikuzzaman Joy is involved in drugs. Strict action will be taken against anyone found to be involved with drugs. Besides, we will take action against those who beat up the student for talking about drugs.
