BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has come to know that coconut trees are not bearing fruit due to coal-based power plants in coastal areas. He claimed that fish is not available in the river because of this.
Pointing out the river filling as the reason behind the feeling of heat being more than the temperature, he said, “This is what happens when the anti-people government is in power.”
The BNP leader said these things during the distribution of water and saline among pedestrians in front of the party’s central office in Naya Paltan on Thursday afternoon.
Rizvi said, “Scientists and environmentalists of our country have repeatedly told the government, ‘Don’t produce thermal power with coal.’ But in the name of the lantern of development, the grand scheme of looting money is going on. Therefore, Sheikh Hasina does not hesitate to do anti-people projects. He has taken various anti-people projects to implement the project of corruption.
“Thermal power plant is being constructed in the Kalapara-Kuakata area of Patuakhali on the seashore. I have heard that in coastal areas of greater Barisal including Patuakhali, coconut trees are no longer bearing coconuts. But once coconuts were lying on the road in these areas.
“Due to the construction of the thermal power station, there are no coconuts on the trees, what is there is drying up again, there are no fish in the river.”
Rizvi claimed that due to the coal power project near the Sundarbans, the bio-diversity there has been ‘extremely damaged’.
Government’s ‘liability’ in summer
The BNP leader also saw the responsibility of the government behind the feeling of intense heat. Said, “Yesterday’s official temperature in Dhaka was 39 degrees. But the temperature felt like 41 degrees. Such a temperature has not been heard before in Dhaka.
“Dhaka is surrounded by rivers, Buriganga on one side, Shitalakshya on the other, Dhaleswari on one side, Turag river on the other. The rivers are now filling up. It is only when looters are against the masses that this is the case.”
Alleging that the president of Chhatra League in Faridpur has smuggled Tk 2000 crore, Rizvi said, “The money comes through them (river filling).
“Social Welfare Minister Chhota Bhai ‘earned 15 thousand crore rupees’, today’s newspaper has news, where does this money come from?”
Claiming that the leaders of the ruling party have houses in Sydney, Australia, Canada, Europe, Dubai, the BNP leader said, “Second home, first home, last home, there is no end to their homes. But the leaders of Awami League have forgotten that ultimately they have to go to Azimpur’s home (cemetery), so they are living in heaven today.”
‘Dummy election’ in upazila
Rizvi also talked about the strategy of opening the Awami League candidate in the upazila elections without announcing BNP. The ruling party did not prevent the leaders from running against the boat mark in the parliamentary elections after the boycott of BNP on January 7.
The BNP leader said, “Sheikh Hasina is conducting ‘dummy upazila elections’ with another ‘dummy candidate’. Hey baper baper. What are they doing in this election!”
He also claimed that many Awami League leaders are not getting a chance in this election because of the parliament members. Said, “Shala (brother-in-law) of Awami League MP, MP’s younger brother, MP’s wife, these are the candidates.
“There is a minister in Singra of Natore. His next of kin should be selected. That’s why he kidnapped his rival. The revolver fell from the car in which the abducted, the police are silent on the matter.”
Commenting that ‘MP-Raj’ has been created in each parliamentary constituency, Rizvi said, “MP Raj has been created in the parliamentary constituency with the dummy MP’s wife, his daughter-in-law, brother-in-law.”
‘This is what you say when you lose your mental balance’
Rizvi also responded to ruling party leader Obaidul Quader’s statement the previous day that Awami League also held programs on the day of their program to mentally block BNP.
He said, “Wow! In fact, only those who lose their mental balance can talk like this.
“These are the gangs of the neighborhood, one is doing something, they attack back there, if there is a wedding ceremony at someone’s house, they go there and ask for money. Obaidul Quader is now ‘Minister of Terrorists’ ‘Minister of Goons’. When the BNP program was given, he counter-programmed.”
Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Abdus Salam chaired the event and member secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnoor conducted the event.
