Charges have been framed against an Additional Superintendent of Police in a case filed by a female officer of Barisal University for cheating and rape in the name of marriage.

Barisal women and child torture suppression tribunal judge. Yarab Hossain has formed the charge, said the bench assistant Kazi Humayun Kabir of the court.

The defendant Additional Superintendent of Police Mahmudul Hasan Ferdous (40) was working in the 10th Barisal Amord Battalion Police. Currently he is working in the police headquarters.

Humayun Kabir told bdnews24.com that the charge of the case was formed in the presence of the plaintiff (37) and the defendant Mahmudul Hasan. Charges were framed against the defendant taking into account the allegations of rape. The court has fixed June 30 as the date for taking evidence. Plaintiff’s testimony will be taken on that day.

The bench assistant said, “The judge took into consideration the bail application of the defendant on the same day for threatening the plaintiff of the case. Apart from this, the PBI has been directed to investigate and submit a report on the application made for threatening the plaintiff to withdraw the case. After receiving the report, the judge will give the next decision.”

Regarding the Nalishi case, he said that the plaintiff and the defendant used to study in Dhaka University. In that formula they are known beforehand. A good relationship developed between them when they came to Barisal. The woman official’s husband divorced her in January last year after finding out about the affair.

The complaint claimed that Ferdous then got married to the woman on February 6, 2022 in the bungalow of the 10th Armed Police Battalion ‘according to Islamic Sharia’. After marriage, both husband and wife participate in various public and private functions. In March of the same year, the first wife of Ferdous came to Bangla with her children, then the plaintiff also went there. He was beaten up when he pressed for marriage registration.

The complaint also states, “On July 22, 2022, the police officer took the woman to the police officers’ mess in Iskaton, Dhaka. Later on July 25, their marriage was registered at a friend’s house in Gulshan. Later they returned to Barisal.

“However, the plaintiff said that even though he asked for the cabinet letter, he did not get it, Ferdous left Barisal on October 8 of the same year. When contacted later, he asked to ‘forget’ about the marriage and threatened not to overdo it.”

Bench assistant Kazi Humayun Kabir said that on November 20, 2022, the woman sent a legal notice seeking the status of wife. On December 27, Kotwali filed a complaint at the Model Police Station after not getting a response. Then the police suggested the case to the court. The court dismissed the complaint and ordered a judicial inquiry.

He said that Barisal Metropolitan Magistrate Al Faisal submitted the investigation report to the tribunal in March this year.
