9 BNP leaders are mourned in Mymensingh for being candidates

--

On May 8, the first phase of polling for the 150 upazila parishad elections will be held. The party has sent show-cause notices to 9 leaders of the BNP and its affiliates for disobeying the party’s decision in Mymensingh’s Haluaghat, Dhobaura and Phulpur upazilas. This has created commotion inside and outside the BNP leaders and workers.
On Thursday (April 25) afternoon, Mymensingh North District BNP Member Secretary Motahar Hossain Talukder confirmed this information.
Before this, on April 24, a letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was sent to the candidate leaders. BNP leader Motahar Hossain Talukder also said that no organizational action will be taken against them, and they have been instructed to submit a written reply within the next 48 hours.
The mourned leaders are Upazila BNP member Abdul Hamid, candidate for the post of chairman in the Haluaghat upazila council election, advocate Hasnat Tarek, member of the Dhaka Lawyers Forum, vice-chairman candidate for the post of Uttar District Mahila Dal, vice-president Manowara Begum Maina, deputy cottage industry affairs secretary Sumi Begum and former student party leader ABM Kajal. Sarkar, upazila BNP chairman candidate Shamchur Rashid Majnu, former vice president of upazila BNP, Farid Al Razi Kamal, upazila BNP member, Jahangir Alam Khan, joint general secretary of North District Jubo Dal, vice chairman candidate, and Md Emran Hossain, chairman candidate in Phulpur upazila, former general secretary of Municipal BNP. Pallava.
A number of BNP leaders and activists said on condition of anonymity that the party structure has collapsed due to lack of organizational structure of the party for years. Because of this, many people have got the opportunity to disobey the party’s decision and become candidates in the upazila elections. The party and Trinamool are suffering extremely.
When asked about the candidature, Haluaghat Upazila BNP member Abdul Hamid said, “My party is not going to the BNP elections, but I am in the election field as an individual and will remain until the end.” Even before this, I had resigned from the party and became a candidate in the previous municipal elections.
In this context, Dhobaura upazila candidate Shamchur Rashid Majnu said, some say BNP will go to the elections, some say it won’t and some say it’s a strategy of the party. But I am not a party leader. I have suffered a lot, been jailed, sued and attacked. But currently many people like me have no value in the party, now many people are selling the party. So I am choosing, even if I am expelled from the party because of this, I have no regrets because I also consider the expulsion order from the party as a ‘post or title’. I was elected UP Chairman twice and was Chairman for fourteen consecutive years. Now I am contesting for the post of Chairman of Upazila Parishad. People are with me, I hope if the election is fair I will win hundred percent.
However, Phulpur Upazila Parishad chairman candidate and BNP leader Md Emran Hossain Pallab sees BNP’s decision not to go to the election as a strategy. He said, BNP’s decision about not going to the election is correct but I have become a candidate in the election. Because if we are not candidates, important institutions like Upazila Parishad will go to Awami League. Hopefully the team doesn’t fire me, and if they do, we’ll see.
