Bangladesh was a part of Pakistan before the Great Liberation War of 1971. At that time Bangladesh was known as ‘East Pakistan’. But when it was part of Pakistan, the people of West Pakistan were victims of economic and social discrimination. To get rid of exploitation and deprivation, freedom-seeking people jumped into war against the Pak army. Bangladesh emerged as an independent country on December 16, 1971 after fighting for 9 months.

Pakistan’s current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that when Bangladesh was part of Pakistan, they were told that this part was a ‘burden on Pakistan’. But that ‘burden’ has now greatly improved in economic terms. As a result, he felt ashamed when he looked at Bangladesh now. Because even though Bangladesh has advanced, Pakistan is still far behind.

Shehbaz Sharif held an exchange meeting with business leaders of Pakistan on Wednesday (April 24). At that time he told them, “I was very young. We were told that Bangladesh is a burden on us. Today everyone knows where that burden has reached economically.” He also said, “When we look at Bangladesh now, we feel ashamed.”

Business leaders from different provinces of Pakistan discussed various issues with Shehbaz Sharif at Sindh CM House on Wednesday. They are said to have urged to start trade talks with arch-rival India as well.

National Assembly elections were held in Pakistan in February this year. Shehbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second time through this election.

Pakistan’s economic situation has been in a critical state for the past few years. Pressure is on Shehbaz Sharif to change this situation.
