Sacrifices of heritage in the 115th edition of the game

Chittagong: Before the 115th edition of the traditional Jabbar Balli game began, the Lal Dighi Maidan was filled to the brim with visitors.

This season starts on Thursday (April 25) at 4 pm.

General secretary of Awami League AJM Nashir Uddin will inaugurate this year’s game of sacrifice, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP of Chittagong-6 Constituency and Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railway Ministry will be the chief guest.

According to the organizing committee, 100 sacrifices from different parts of the country are participating in this event till 3:30 pm.

Chowdhury Farid, vice-president of the celebration committee of the ball game, told Banglanews that the ball game registration started at the City Corporation Library from 11 pm. So far I have written 100 names

In 1909, Abdul Jabbar, a renowned businessman of Chittagong, started this game of Saudagar. Since then this competition is held every year on 12th day of Baisakh month. Abdul Jabbar Miah was awarded the title of Khan Bahadur by the British government for organizing this exceptional sports competition, but he refused it.

Tariqul Islam Jeeban of Chakaria Upazila became the champion in the 114th edition of Jabbar Boli game organized on April 25, 2023, but lost to Shahjalal Boli of Comilla.

Meanwhile, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has strengthened security in Laldighi and surrounding areas around Jabbar Bali Khel and Baisakhi Mela. In addition to regular patrolling, more than two hundred additional police have been deployed at seven points in and around Laldighi. Besides, there are white-clothed police and detectives.
