The bomb disposal unit of the army detonated the grenades, mines and mortar shells (broken) that came out during the excavation of Kishoreganj soil in Nilphamari.

At around 11 o’clock on Thursday, these weapons were detonated and deactivated near Teesta Canal, which is adjacent to the market of Bajedumaria Canal in the upazila.

According to the sources, at 5 pm last Monday, the ground cutting work was going on for the renovation of Dalia main irrigation canal adjacent to Bajdumaria canal market of Upajlor Sadar Union. At that time, while cutting the soil with a veku machine (excavator), a grenade, a three knot three rifle, two mines, a mortar shell (broken) and a rifle magazine came out. When local people saw these weapons and informed the police, the police went to the spot and cordoned off the place and police guard was established.

Sources also informed that around 11 am on Thursday, members of the bomb disposal unit of the army detonated a grenade, two mines and a broken mortar shell. The recovered rifle was rusted and useless, but the grenade, mine and mortar shell were fresh. A bomb disposal unit led by Major Abdullah Al Sayem and Major Anich of Rangpur Cantonment 66 Infantry Division detonated the recovered grenades, mines and mortar shells by exploding them on the ground.

Palash Chandra Mondal, officer in charge (OC) of Kishoreganj police station said, ‘A bomb disposal unit of the army arrived and destroyed the recovered grenades, mines and broken mortar shells. A rifle and a rifle magazine were seized as they were useless due to rust.’
