Dhaka: 57 first class officials of Bangladesh Bank have recently left their jobs due to less opportunities than before. Among them are one deputy director and one officer, while the remaining 55 are assistant directors. Many of those who quit their jobs quit to join BCS or some other job.
Last March 31, April 15 and 16 one each, April 18 two and April 21 four resigned. Most of these officers who left their jobs were working in various departments of the central bank’s head office.
Apart from this, three people were working in Khulna and Barisal offices, two people in Sylhet office, one each in Motijheel, Chittagong and Rangpur offices.
Recently, this information was informed in an office order of Bangladesh Bank.
It is known that at one time many people used to leave good jobs to join Bangladesh Bank as Assistant Director. Currently there is an exception. Many talented people are leaving bank jobs in Bangladesh. Once upon a time, one of the big reasons why talented people came to work in Bangladesh Bank was independence, even if they lived an honest life, financial prosperity would come. There were various types of legitimate privileges. Also they could take different decisions independently. Now most of the decisions including inspections are imposed from above. Many people are disappointed with this. Again, the officials of Bangladesh Bank used to get a little more facilities than any other institution. Currently, that situation is no longer the same.
Several officials of the central bank, on condition of anonymity, said that the Bangladesh Bank job was much more privileged and respected than any other job. Besides, as the regulatory body of the banking sector, there was a system to encourage the employment of Bangladesh Bank in various ways. Talents prevailed in all fields. Till 2018 four additional increments were given on the basis of academic results after joining as Assistant Director. It was discontinued from AD batch of 2019. As a result, many people are losing interest in Bangladesh Bank jobs.
On the other hand, if three years are completed till 2022, the officers would be eligible for promotion in the next step subject to the vacancy. Even if the post is vacant now, no promotion is given if it is not five years. Earlier there was a nine month foundation training after joining. Now brought down from one to three months. Again an additional increment was given if 80 percent marks were obtained in this training. That too is now closed.
Also, in government jobs fifth grade car maintenance allowance of Tk 45 thousand per month is given but Bangladesh Bank does not give it. Due to all these reasons, many people are leaving the bank job and joining the Bangladesh Civil Service.
