The Bangladeshi team won a bronze medal and three ‘honorable mentions’ at the European Girls Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) held in Skaltubo, Georgia.

EGMO’s 13th Olympiad was held from April 11 to 17; For the fourth time, a four-member team of Bangladeshi schoolgirls took part in it.

Nuzhat Ahmed Disha, a student of Vikarunnisa Noon School and College, won the bronze medal in the Olympiad. Manami Zaman, another student of Vikarunnisa, Afsana Akhtar of Holy Cross College and Saniva Rakib Soha of Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College received ‘honorable recognition’.

According to a press release, Bangladeshi girls achieved this success among 212 contestants from 55 countries in the competition.

In EGMO, Atanu Roy Chowdhury served as Bangladesh party leader and Ipsita Bahni Upma was the faction leader.

Ipsita Bahni said, “The pattern of questions this time was different from last few years. Our students have improved in Number Theory, Algebra subjects. Their participation throughout the event was lively and joyful. This is the biggest achievement for me.”

Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, a member of ‘Ganitkanya-Bangladesh Girls Mathematics Foundation’, said, “Our girls are raising the country’s flag on the international stage, it is a great pride and joy for us.”
