Dhaka: At Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, 43 poor patients are undergoing free cataract, macular augmentation and retinal surgery.

On Thursday (April 25), Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, located on Sabrina Sobhan Road in Bashundhara residential area, organized the day-long free EyeCamp operation organized by Vision Care Foundation and Navjagaran Prabhadi Odhikar Sansthan.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute’s unpaid director and president of Vision Care Foundation Prof. Dr. Md. Dr. Saleh Ahmed took part in the surgery. Anthony Albert, Dr. Majumdar Golam Rabbi and Dr. Tasruba Shahnaz. A total of 43 patients including 20 males and 23 females are being operated on.

A resident of Krishnanagbindpur Kaithapara village of Chapainawabganj Sadar police station, Nurul Huda has undergone cataract surgery twice in both eyes from Bashundhara Eye Hospital.

Nurul Huda told BanglaNews that the free treatment given by Bashundhara Group to the poor and helpless patients is highly commendable. I pray for the Bashundhara group, may the Lord fulfill all their hopes. There are currently three people in my family including wife and son. Blurred vision in the left eye, cataracts. This eye problem has been going on for about two to three years. Earlier also I had right eye surgery from Bashundhara eye hospital. At present the right eye is fine.

Mo Jamshed Ali, a resident of Nichudhami village of Shibganj police station in Chapainawabganj district, also came to Bashundhara Eye Hospital for cataract surgery on his left eye free of charge.

He told BanglaNews, “I can’t see well, everything seems blurry.” One’s appearance is not well understood. That is why it is very difficult to recognize familiar people. This problem has been going on for almost two years. I was not able to see an eye doctor in time because I was working in agriculture. When the eye camp was held in our village in January, I took a chance to see the doctor. There, the doctor said, after fasting, the eye should be operated. I am eternally grateful to Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Vision Care for providing us with free eye surgery. Always pray for them.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute’s unpaid director and president of Vision Care Foundation Prof. Dr. Md. Saleh Ahmad said, this camp was held on February 16 at Krishnagobindpur Degree College in Chapainawabganj. Out of 1,200 patients, 420 were selected for the operation. On Thursday, 43 patients of the 2nd batch are being operated on.

He also said that there are 20 male and 23 female patients.

Chapainawabganj based voluntary organization Medical Help Center Bashundhara Ophthalmology Hospital and Vision Care has arranged iCamp for these local patients of Chapainawabganj.

The general secretary of this organization. Aminul Islam told Banglanews that the medical aid center is a Chapainawabganj based voluntary organization. We have been working together with Bashundhara since 2019. So far about 8 thousand patients have been given general eye treatment through iCamp So far 400 patients have been operated on. Every year we do 2 camps. Bashundhara Eye Hospital offers comprehensive support that cannot be found anywhere else. About 1 thousand 700 patients came to the camp that we conducted this year for general eye treatment. Out of them, about 500 patients have been selected for the operation. A batch of whom have been operated before fasting. Today, in the second batch, 43 people have been brought in for the operation.

Md. Aminul Islam said, our program aims to do something for the marginalized people who are going blind due to lack of money. I have been doing this activity since I was a student. I received the International Caregiver Award last year for all these activities. Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Vision Care’s cooperation in providing free eye treatment to the common people is certainly worthy of appreciation.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute Manager HR and Administration Mohammad Ahsan Habib said, this initiative has been taken to help eye treatment of deaf and blind patients. Such activities have already been going on to serve the poor. This camp is being held free of cost all over the country. So far more than 3000 patients have been given free eye surgeries through the camp.
