Can Bangladesh win the World Cup? Shakib said, why not

Whatever the version, Bangladesh’s success in any global tournament is zero. The Tigers have some impressive wins in the bilateral series. Most of them are at home, in ODIs. In T20, Bangladesh still can’t fight in that sense. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is dreaming of winning the upcoming T20 World Cup there.

Shakib is currently in the US to spend time with his family. The T20 World Cup will start in this country and West Indies from next June. Many expatriate Bangladeshis stay in the United States. Shakib recently attended an event at the invitation of those expatriates. This all-rounder expects full support from them in the World Cup as well.

At one stage of the program, the possibility of Bangladesh winning the title in the upcoming World Cup was questioned. In his reply, Shakib said, ‘It will be difficult to say whether (Bangladesh) is in a position to win the World Cup. But in T20 actually anyone has to beat anyone. There is no big party. All we need is faith.’

“If we can play with that belief, we can do well. I am not saying that I can win or not. But there is a possibility to do something good. If we get the momentum we can keep it. Too much but you don’t have to win a match to do something good. I hope we can do that. If you have support why not, why not. I believe we can,’ added Shakib.

Bangladesh has played in the United States before. The Tigers also won the T20 series against West Indies in the country in 2018. Almost the entire support of Seva’s gallery was for the red-green jersey holders. Even before the World Cup, the Tigers will prepare by playing a bilateral series in this field. Shakib wants the same kind of support in that series and the World Cup.

This all-rounder is expecting something good, ‘I hope our preparation will be good. When we played here earlier we got a lot of support. We won the series against West Indies that time. Hope we can do something good this time too. Our performance in the last T20 World Cup was very good. If we can improve a bit from there, I think we have a chance to do better this time.’

Shakib said that the condition of West Indies is also suitable for Bangladesh, although we are in a tough group. But in T20, the difference between the teams is very small. Any team can beat anyone on any given day. It will definitely be a tough competition. But I think the conditions will help us. West Indies suit us (the game) quite well. We can get a similar pitch (as in Bangladesh). Especially in Dallas.’

‘It might help us. I don’t know what the New York pitch will be like. Hope to get lots of support. Good or bad, I hope to get a lot of support from you. You can also criticize, no problem. I think we can repay your love and support,’ added Shakib.
