Devoted Muslims of Phulbari Upazila of Kurigram prayed two rakats of Istiska praying for rain to save them from the scorching sun, intense heat and constant drought.
On Thursday (April 25) around 9:30 in the morning, more than 200 devout Muslims gathered in Miapara Nazim Uddin High School ground of Shimulbari Union of Upazila and offered this special prayer.
Khatib Maulana Abdul Malek of Fulbari Kachari Mat Jame Masjid led the prayer.
Maulana Abdul Malek said, ‘Today the prayer was performed after two rakats of Salatul Istiska for rain. It is a circumcision practice. In this prayer, prayers are prayed for rain for crops and people’s relief from severe drought.
On the other hand, at the same time, special prayers were offered at Rabaitari Eidgah ground of Bhangamore Union and Gangahat Government Primary School ground of Kashipur Union.
Subal Chandra Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Rajarhat Agricultural Meteorological Observatory of Kurigram, said that the maximum temperature has been fluctuating from 33 degrees to 37 degrees Celsius for a week across Kurigram district including Phulbari. There is no possibility of lowering the temperature for now.
