The administration has formed an inquiry committee into the incident of a student falling unconscious in the ‘guest room’ of the Chhatra League at the Victory Ekatar Hall of Dhaka University.

Principal of the hall Professor Abdul Bashir said that the committee has been asked to submit a report within seven working days.

Niamul Islam, a student of the 2022-23 academic year of the university’s Management Information Systems department, fell unconscious in the guest room of the hall on Tuesday night.

In this incident, the Vijay Ekatar Hall administration formed a three-member investigation committee headed by Mohammad Shah Miran, the resident teacher of the hall, on Wednesday. Other members of the committee are – Resident teacher Moha. Jahangir Hossain and Abu Hossain Muhammad Ahsan.

Principal Abdul Bachir told bdnews24.com, “We have inquired after learning about the incident of a student unconscious in the guest room of the hall. A committee has been formed to conduct a fair investigation into the unfortunate and unfortunate incident in the name of the guest room. Appropriate action will be taken based on the committee’s report.”

Several students in the guest room said that around 10 pm on Tuesday, the staff of Rabbi Ahmed, organizing secretary of the Vijay Ekatar Hall branch of the Chhatra League, made the juniors stand in the guest room of the hall for a long time to teach them etiquette. At that time, Niamul felt sick due to intense heat. The Chhatra League leaders and workers did not leave him despite his physical discomfort. Niamul fainted at one point around 10 pm. Later his friends took him to the common room and poured water on his head and cured him.

When Niamul was called to inquire about this, he refused to speak to the media.

When asked about the allegations, Rabbi Ahmed, organizing secretary of Vijay Attar Hall Branch Chhatra League, told bdnews24.com, “It was not a political programme. Senior-junior sat after Eid. Inquiries were being made about how the Eid holiday was spent.

“Nyamul feels uncomfortable due to the heat. Then the friends came and kept him in his room with bottled water. He didn’t even have to be taken to the hospital.”
