Dhaka: Independence and National Day of Bangladesh and 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s relationship with Kuwait were celebrated.

A reception was organized at the local Crowne Plaza Hotel on Wednesday (April 24) at the initiative of the Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait.

A total of more than 400 guests, including ambassadors of various countries assigned to Kuwait, members of diplomatic missions, high-ranking officials of Kuwait, dignitaries, members of Bangladesh Military Contingent to Kuwait, local and expatriate media workers and members of the Bangladesh community attended the event.

Sheikh Firas Saud Al-Malik Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Child Affairs and Acting State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, was present as the chief guest at the reception.

Major General (retd.) Md. Ambassador of Bangladesh appointed to Kuwait. Ashikuzzaman and other embassy officials and their wives welcomed the guests at the reception.

The colorful reception started with the playing of national anthems of Bangladesh and Kuwait.

In his speech, the Ambassador thanked Sheikh Firas Saud Al-Malik Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Child Affairs and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, for attending the event as the chief guest. He expressed his deep gratitude to His Highness the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Government of Kuwait and the people of Kuwait for their continued support to Bangladeshi expatriates living in Kuwait.

At the end of the ambassador’s address, a short cultural program entertained the visiting audience.

The ambassador mentioned in his speech that Kuwait was the first Gulf country to recognize Bangladesh after independence. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, Bangladesh and Kuwait have enjoyed excellent bilateral relations in a wide range of fields including political, economic, export and import, trade and investment, manpower, agriculture, education, tourism and defense sectors.

The ambassador expressed hope that bilateral relations between the two friendly countries will reach a new height under the visionary leadership of His Highness the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In his speech, the Ambassador invited Kuwait and all friendly countries of the world to invest in the Special Economic Zone and become partners for mutual growth and prosperity.

In his speech, he also highlighted the tourism sector of Bangladesh. The Ambassador invited everyone to visit Bangladesh to enjoy the natural beauty of Bangladesh and the hospitality of Bangladeshis. In his closing speech, the Ambassador urged all Bangladeshis living in Kuwait to make maximum contributions from their respective positions to make it the ‘Golden Bangla’ of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s dream.

Incidentally, on the same day, as part of the celebration of fifty years (golden jubilee) of Bangladesh-Kuwait diplomatic relations, the Bangladesh Embassy published a special cover letter in the famous Kuwaiti newspaper ‘Dainik Arab Times’.
