A meeting to review the progress of city wards and all drain cleaning ahead of the next monsoon

--

Personal Correspondent:

A review meeting was held on the progress of all drain cleaning activities in 30 wards and central level of Rajshahi city by Rajshahi City Corporation in view of the next monsoon. This review meeting was held under the chairmanship of AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, member of the presidium of Bangladesh Awami League and Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, at Nagar Bhaban on Wednesday afternoon.

In the said meeting, the mayor wants to know about the procedure and progress of drain cleaning activities. At this time, Rasik’s clean department informed that all drain cleaning activities in 30 wards and central level have been ongoing since last March. The city plans to clean all the drains by May. The wide drains are removed by lifting the dirt and mud directly from the drains with modern machinery. However, modern equipment has limitations in cleaning narrow drains.

Due to modern equipment and financial constraints, traditional methods are being used by laborers to lift the watery dirt and mud from small and narrow drains, leave the water next to the drain and then remove it. At this time, Rasik Mayor gave instructions to finish the drain cleaning program as soon as possible.

At that time Rasik Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said that the narrow drains are being cleaned by workers in the old way. In this regard, we are aware of the temporary difficulties faced by the citizens in some areas. I have instructed the Clean Department to complete the said activities at the earliest to bring the citizens suffering to minimum level. We sincerely apologize for the temporary inconvenience. In the interest of the public, I urge you to take the matter positively and seek the cooperation of the city dwellers. If there is garbage left somewhere for a long time, I request you to report the complaint to Rasik Hotline-16105.

The meeting was attended by the President of Relief and Disaster Management Standing Committee and 17th Ward Councilor Shahadat Ali Shahu, 19th Ward Councilor Touhidul Haque Sumon, Reserved Ward Councilor Sebun Nesa, Secretary Md. Mobarak Hossain, Chief Health Officer Dr. FAM Anjuman Ara Begum, Deputy Chief Clean Officer Salim Reza Ranju and others were present.
