Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC) authorities have banned women employees from wearing burqa and niqab. CEITC authorities announced this in a letter signed by Human Resource Manager Md. Kabir Hossain on April 16. CEITC is known as Chittagong Eye Hospital.
Titled Uniform Policy, Dress Code, Personal Appearance Standards and Grooming Code, the 3-page office order states, ‘To create a positive professional image with our clients and to promote patient and public trust and as part of institutional discipline, management has developed a guideline for staff. CEITC. It will be implemented from May 1. All are requested to extend their cooperation.’ In the second line of the third column of the B section of the dress code, it is written, ‘Women employees cannot cover their faces. Hijab is allowed. Niqab and Burqa are strictly prohibited while on duty.’
Meanwhile, the ban on Muslim women’s religious dress has sparked outrage among hospital staff. Criticism of this move is ongoing. Yesterday, when the news of the ban on burqa and niqab spread, there was a strong reaction on social media. Many are referring to this decision of Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex as a Zionist conspiracy.
Several women employees of CEITC said, ‘Burqa is a mandatory dress code for Muslim women. The authorities have no right to ban this religious dress. This is nothing more than an exaggerated exaggeration.’ When asked about the letter, the manager (human resource) Md. Kabir Hossain did not receive the call.
