The High Court has ordered action against SI Omar Farooq of Uttara West Police Station after receiving information about his involvement in a kidnapping and extortion case.

The bench of Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain gave this order on Wednesday after rejecting the anticipatory bail application of Omar Farooq.

The police officer has also been directed to surrender before the judicial court within two weeks.

Jahangir Kabir heard the bail application on behalf of Omar Farooq. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Amin Uddin Manik told bdnews24.com that while he was talking to Ahsan Habib at a food hotel in Piruzali Alimpara, Joydevpur on November 24, some of his associates (Ahsan Habib) took him to a white colored microbus and blindfolded and handcuffed Shafiqul Islam of Madhyapara, Joydevpur. They beat them and demanded a ransom of 5 lakh rupees.

The plaintiff gave them 10,000 rupees in his pocket. Later the accused called his wife and demanded the ransom. Later, at 12:15 am, he was thrown blindfolded from the car at Kamarpara, Turag.

The lawyer for the state said that when the matter was reported to the police, Ahsan Habib was arrested from his house that night. Later he mentioned the names of various accused.

Among these, Md. In the deposition of an accused named Shaheen Chowdhury under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the issue of SI Omar Farooq’s involvement with the matter came up. In this situation, SI Omar Farooq applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court.
