A Chhatra League worker named Jayant Kumar (16) has been arrested by police in Badarganj of Rangpur for taunting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on Facebook.

He was arrested from the municipality on Wednesday afternoon.

Arrested Jayant Kumar is the son of Bablu Kumar of Kailashpara village of ward number 5 of the municipality. He introduced himself as an activist of Municipal Chhatra League on Facebook.

Badarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Latif Miah said that on Wednesday Jayant posted on his Facebook ID comparing the food of Hazrat Muhammad SAW to an animal that is forbidden in Islam. When the post went viral on Facebook, the excited crowd thronged the accused Jayantar’s tea shop in front of the Upazila Parishad gate in the city. Sensing it before that, Jayant left the shop and ran away. The agitated crowd staged a protest demanding his arrest. Later, Badarganj police went there to calm the situation and after some time he was arrested from Mirapara.

The OC also said that Jayant was arrested and taken to the police station and the situation became normal. He will be sent to jail in the night through Rangpur court.

Shakil Hossain, President of Badarganj Municipality, said, “The BCL worker who taunted the Prophet SAW does not have any party rank. The organization will not take responsibility for the misdeeds of individuals.’
