The engine of an oil train broke down at the railway crossing of Bariyarhat municipality in Mirsrai upazila of Chittagong. This has created a traffic jam on the Baroyarhat-Ramgarh road. Hundreds of people have suffered. Passengers are fed up in the intense heat.

The incident took place on Wednesday (April 24) at 9:50 am at the Baryarhat railway crossing. Later the engine was repaired after 1 hour long effort by the loco master on the train.

It is reported that the oil tanker (train number 972) leaving from Dhaka for Chittagong reached the Baryarhat market when the engine malfunction occurred. At that time, when the train was stopped, a two kilometer long traffic jam was created on both sides of the Baryarhat-Ramgarh road. After 1 hour of effort it worked.

Raihan Hossain, a passenger of Shanti Paribahan, a passenger bus leaving from Khagrachari, said, “We are in trouble because of the severe heat and the train broke down.” Bus stops here for about 40 minutes. Being unable to bear the heat, I am in a very delicate condition with the child.

Rustom Mia, a truck driver who left Ramgarh with a truck full of sand, said that he was stuck in this jam for about an hour. We drive on contract, I cut a trip short because of the traffic here.

College student Farid Ahmed said, my honors 3rd year exam is going on. I left the house after calculating the time. But the train broke down in such a place that there was no alternative way out.

Sirajur Islam, Chinki Astana Railway Station Master of Eastern Railway, said that the train stopped at Baryarhat Bazar area at 9:50 am when there was a fault in the engine of the train. The train was carrying oil from Dhaka to Chittagong It was repaired after an hour long effort of the loco master on the train. Later it left for Chittagong at 10:50.
