Harare, 24 April 2024 (Bass/Website) : Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has announced a 15-member strong squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series in Bangladesh. For the first time, Jonathan Campbell, the son of the country’s former captain Alastair Campbell, got a chance in the Zimbabwe team. 26-year-old Jonathan has earned a reputation as a leg-spinner all-rounder.
Jonathan was a member of the Zimbabwe Emerging team that won the gold medal at the 13th African Games last month. Batting at number three, he scored 115 runs at a strike rate of 126.37 in four innings. Jonathan got a chance to bowl in only one match. He took 1 wicket for 5 runs in 2 overs against Kenya in the semi-final. He has scored 293 runs and 10 wickets in 26 T20Is.
Jonathan’s father Alistair played for Zimbabwe from 1992-2003. 51-year-old Alistair scored 2858 runs in 60 Tests and 5185 runs in 188 ODIs for the country in his 11-year cricket career.
Along with Jonathan, Clive Madande and Brian Bennett, who were in Zimbabwe’s emerging squad for the African Games, have been included in the Bangladesh series. They have already played for the national team in two formats. Madande played 15 ODIs and 20 T20Is while Bennett played 6 T20Is in Zimbabwe jersey.
The team led by Sikander Raja includes veterans Craig Irvine, Sean Williams, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Mujarabani.
