Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Prannoy Kumar Verma has said that India wants to help build cyclone shelters in vulnerable areas of Bangladesh. He told reporters after a courtesy meeting with Minister Mohibur Rahman in the conference room of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the secretariat on Wednesday (April 24) at noon.

India’s High Commissioner said, due to the ecological similarity, we face similar natural disasters. Bangladesh is a member of various global organizations including Disaster Resilient Infrastructure. So India-Bangladesh can work together in these cases.

He said that last year the two countries had a meeting at the secretary level of this ministry. There is institutional relationship between Bangladesh Ministry of Disaster Management and our Disaster Management Authority. We also signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2021. We also discussed the implementation of this agreement. For example, the two countries are said to assist each other in remote sensing, disaster management programs, training and information exchange.

Prannoy Kumar Verma said, we have expressed interest in working together with both countries on remote sensing. We discussed how Bangladesh can be assisted in building cyclone shelters in vulnerable areas. I am very satisfied that the Minister of State has shown interest in implementing all the initiatives.

At this time, the state minister for disaster said that India is always with Bangladesh to solve the Rohingya crisis. They are supporting Bangladesh and will continue to do so in the future. As India and Bangladesh are one in nature, we will work together in future to face the problems.
