A worker of Chhatra League was brutally beaten up in Chittagong University (CHB) for not having good relations with the group leader. However, according to the accused, when he tried to stop the consumption of drugs, there was a fight with him.

The incident took place on Monday (April 22) around 11 pm in room 440 of AF Rahman Hall.

Ashikuzzaman Joy, a Chhatra League activist, was beaten up on allegations that his relationship with the former Joint General Secretary of the Chabi branch, Mohammad Ilyas, is not good.

The victim Ashikuzzaman Joy is a student of 2018-19 session of statistics department in Chabi. The beaters were Abdullah Al Zobair, a student of Public Administration Department, Mamun Miah of Communication and Journalism Department, Faisal Miah (Atish Faisal) of Political Science Department, Tanay Kanti Sarkar of Islamic History and Culture Department, Shakil Ahmed of Development Studies Department and Russel Raj of Botany Department, among 1520 people. All of them are students of 2018-19 academic year.

Ashikuzzaman told Jai Jago News that 15-20 people, including the accused, beat me up asking why my relationship with Elias Bhai is bad. They came to my room and tried to kill me. Beat with stick, rod, hookstick. At one point, when I was going to throw it from the roof of the hall, I somehow ran away. Later, when he went to take medical, he was beaten again at the gate of the hall. The CCTV footage of the hall will prove it. Later I went to the medical center with the help of two seniors in the hall and took treatment. I don’t know when I will recover.

Accused Abdullah Al Zobair told Jago News, “He (Joy) is the son of our session.” He is openly involved in drug taking and dealing. If someone is consuming drugs and selling drugs inside the hall, we will definitely resist it. When he is prevented from taking drugs, he behaves aggressively. From there, there was a fight. But the allegations of attempted murder are completely false.’

Accused Tanay Kanti Sarkar said, ‘Aashik is intoxicated. When he tried to talk to him about it, he was angry that he was arguing with everyone and he was beaten up lightly. I tried to save him as much as possible.’ The other accused also said the same thing.

After the beating incident, some photos of Ashikuzzaman Joy’s drug involvement came into the hands of Jago News. There he is seen with a bottle of wine in his hand. However, Joy claimed that the pictures were taken in the room of another friend who is a drug dealer in the hall and that he is not involved in any kind of drugs.

To know about this, Bijay Group leader Mohammad Ilyas tried to contact him several times over the phone but he did not respond.

Dr. Proctor. Ahidul Alam told Jago News, I went to the hall after receiving the news. But he did not meet her as she left for the cottage. Talked on the phone later. He has been asked to file a written complaint. Action will be taken if complaints are received.

He also said that the administration will take action if anyone is involved in drugs. But no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
