Commander Arafat Islam is the new spokesperson of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). On Wednesday (April 24), he took over as director of the force’s legal and media wing. As a result, he succeeded Commander Khandaker Al Moin.

Commander Arafat Islam is a smart officer of Bangladesh Navy. He joined the Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet with the 35th BMA Long Course in 1995 and was commissioned in the Executive Branch on 1 July 1997.

Commander Arafat Islam served with great reputation as the captain of various small and medium ships in the Navy for a long time. He received training on various advanced technologies of the Navy at home and abroad.

Commander Arafat Islam joined RAB Forces on December 26, 2022. Served as captain of RAB-13 from January 20, 2023 to April 23 this year.

He served as the captain of RAB-13 with integrity, efficiency and dedication for one year and three months and played a special role in accelerating RAB’s offensive activities.

Apart from this, he played an important role in suppressing militancy operations in Rangpur divisional area, unraveling the mystery of Clueless murder case, anti-narcotics operations and other crimes.

During the tenure of Commander Arafat Islam, RAB-13 achieved the distinction of excellence in administrative efficiency for the first time in the fiscal year 2022-2023.

Commander Arafat Islam served as Deputy Director of RAB-4 and RAB-5 from 2007 to 2009 with great success. He performed important duties in Bangladesh Coast Guard with great efficiency. He served with distinction in UN peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and South Sudan.

He has been awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal BPM-Seva, Naval Excellence Medal (NUP) from the Bangladesh Navy and President Coast Guard Medal (PCGM) from the Coast Guard for his professional excellence while serving in the RAB. In addition, he received the Admiral’s Commendation and the Force Commander’s Commendation from the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.

Commander Arafat Islam completed specialization on Navigation and Direction. He has higher education in Meteorology and MBA degree from National University.

Apart from this, he is an astute officer with various range of training, command and staff experience of Bangladesh Navy. It is said that he has been gaining reputation in the workplace by performing duties with utmost integrity, professionalism, expertise, excellence and prudence.
