Sylhet: In the upcoming sixth upazila parishad election, the returning officer has allocated symbols in the first phase in four upazilas of Sylhet.
On Tuesday (April 23), the returning officer and senior district election officer allotted symbols among a total of 58 candidates, including 24 for the chairmanship of Sylhet Sadar, Biswanath, Dakshin Surma and Golapganj upazilas.
Out of this, symbols have been allocated to 24 candidates for the post of vice chairman and 10 candidates for the post of female vice chairman.
Sylhet senior district election officer and four upazila election returning officer Mohammad Zillur Rahman confirmed this information.
Sylhet Sadar Upazila: 16 candidates are contesting for the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman. 6 people on the post of chairman, 8 people on the post of vice chairman and 2 people on the post of female vice chairman.
Chairman candidate – Dr. Md. Khalilur Rahman (Telephone), Md. Sujat Ali Rafiq (Cup-Pirich), Millat Ahmad Chowdhury (Horse), Md. Ahad Mia (prayer-pen), Md. Ejazul Haque Motorcycle, Md. Samsul Islam Pineapple. Candidates for the post of vice chairman are Nizam Ahmad (tube well), Nurul Islam (lock), Bilash Bonarjee (electric bulb), Md. Oliur Rahman (Tiapakhi), Md. Zakir Hussain (glasses), Md. Saiful Islam (aircraft), Rathindra Lal Das (book), Salim Ahmed (mic). Deleted among female vice chairman candidates. Dilruba Begum (lotus), wipe. Hachina Akhtar (Football).
In Bishwanath Upazila: 19 candidates are contesting for the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman. 10 people on the post of chairman, six on the post of vice-chairman and three on the post of female vice-chairman.
Chairman Candidates – Akduch Ali (Helicopter), Altab Hossain (Telephone), Gias Uddin Ahmad (Pineapple), Gauch Khan (Kai Fish), Mohammad S Ali Enamul Haque Chowdhury (Motorcycle), Mohammad Suhail Ahmad Chowdhury (Cup Pirich), Md. .Abdul Roson Cheragh Ali (Horse), Md. Cebul Mia (Doat pen), Safiq Uddin (Camel), Shamsadur Rahman Rahin (Shalik). Candidates for the post of Vice Chairman – Abdur Rob (glasses), Partha Sarthi Das Pappu (Tia Pakhi), Muhibur Rahman Sweet (Mic), Mohammad Kaushar Khan (Lock), Md. Islam Uddin (book), Md. Siraj Miah (Tubewell). Female Vice Chairman Candidate – Deleted. Karima Begum (pitcher), deleted. Julia Begum (Football), Begum Sapna Shaheen (Butterfly).
In South Surmay Upazila: 13 candidates are contesting for the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman. There are five chairmen, five vice chairmen and three female vice chairmen.
Candidate for the post of Chairman – Md. Mainul Islam (Pineapple), Mohammad Jewel Ahmed (Horse), Md. Badrul Islam (Telephone), Md. Shamim Ahmed (Motorcycle), Md. Shaheed Mosharraf (Kappirich). Candidates for the post of Vice Chairman – Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman (Mike), Faiz Ahmed (Lock), Ali Ashgar Khan Shamim (Glasses), Nandan Chandra Pal (Tubewell), Md. Abdur Rahman (aircraft). Candidate for the position of female vice chairman – current vice chairman Irene Rahman Koli (Padmaful), deleted. Halima Begum (pitcher), deleted. Fahima Begum (Football) was allotted the symbol.
In Golapganj Upazila: 10 candidates are contesting for the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman. Three on the post of chairman, five on the post of vice-chairman and two on the post of female vice-chairman.
Candidates for the post of chairman – Manzoor Qadir Shafi (prayer-pen), Abu Sufian (pineapple), Shahidur Rahman (horse). Candidates for the post of Vice Chairman – Akmal Hossain (Book), Abu Sufian Mohammad Azam (Tia Pakhi), Farhad Ahmad (Tala), Md. Nabed Hossain (glasses), Md. Lobibur Rahman (tubewell). Female Vice Chairman Candidate – Md. Nargis Parveen (Pitcher), Selina Akhter Sheila (Football).
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission for the Upazila Parishad elections, the last date for submission of nomination papers to the returning officer is May 9, the last date for selection is May 12 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 19. Symbol Allotment May 20. And voting will be held on June 5. Out of 55 upazilas, two will vote in EVMs.
