The authorities of Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex (CEITC), known as Chittagong Eye Hospital, have banned employees from wearing burqa and niqab.

Titled ‘Uniform Policy, Dress Code, Personal Appearance Standards and Grooming Code’, the 3-page office order states, ‘A guide for management staff to create a positive professional image with our customers and to promote patient and public confidence and as part of institutional discipline. Created by CEITC. It will be implemented from May 1. All are requested to extend their cooperation.’

In the second line of the third column of the B section of the dress code, it is written, ‘Women employees cannot cover their faces. Hijab is allowed. Niqab and Burqa are strictly prohibited while on duty.’

A woman employee of CEITC told a media outlet on condition of anonymity, “The burqa is a mandatory dress code for Muslim women. The authorities have no right to ban this religious dress. This is nothing more than an exaggerated exaggeration.’
