10 agreements between Bangladesh and Qatar

In the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, five agreements and five memorandums of understanding were signed between the two countries on cooperation in various fields. The agreements are between Bangladesh and Qatar on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of revenue evasion, cooperation in legal matters between the two countries, maritime transport, development and protection of mutual investment and establishment of joint trade council. In addition to the agreement, five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed. These include MoUs on cooperation in manpower and employment (labour), ports (MWANI Qatar and Chittagong Port Authority), education, higher education and scientific research, youth and sports and diplomatic training between Bangladesh and Qatar.

The first of the agreements was signed by Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi and Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Finance Wasika Ayesha Khan, the second by Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Bangladesh’s Law Minister Anisul Haq, the third by Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Bangladesh’s State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, and the fourth by Bangladesh’s Minister of Industry Nurul Majid Mahmud. On behalf of Humayun and Qatar, Commerce and Industry Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani and the fifth was signed by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Mahbubul Alam.

All of the MoUs were signed by Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on behalf of Qatar, and Ministers of State for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment and Ministry of Shipping for Bangladesh.

A road and a park in the capital Dhaka were named after Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar at the signing ceremony of the agreement and memorandum of understanding.
