Symbols have been allocated among the candidates in the two Upazila Parishad elections of Barisal.
Symbols were allotted in the presence of candidates at the district election office in Nathullabad in the city from Tuesday (April 23) morning.
Symbols have been allocated among 21 candidates including chairman, vice chairman and female vice chairman of Barisal Sadar and Bakerganj upazilas.
5 chairman candidates, 4 vice chairman candidates and 3 female vice chairman candidates are contesting in Barisal Sadar upazila.
On the other hand, 4 chairman candidates, 3 vice chairman candidates and 2 female vice chairman candidates are contesting in Bakerganj upazila. Earlier, on the last day of withdrawal of nominations, a total of four people withdrew their nominations, one from the post of Barisal Sadar Upazila Vice Chairman, 2 from the post of Chairman in Bakerganj and one from the post of Vice Chairman.
In Barisal Sadar Upazila, among the five candidates for the post of chairman, pineapple, motorcycle, horse, prayer pen, cup-pearl symbols were allotted. Apart from this, symbols are allocated among four candidates in Bakerganj upazila.
The returning officer allotted symbols in the conference room of the district returning officer’s office from 11 am on Tuesday.
This year for the first time in Barisal Sadar and Bakerganj, 26 people filed their nominations online. Among them, 12 people submitted nominations for the post of chairman. The returning officer canceled the nomination of a candidate of Bakerganj upazila in the verification selection. And four others withdrew their nomination.
Candidates expressed their satisfaction on getting the desired symbols. They said that they will develop the area if they win.
In this year’s elections, the total number of voters in 10 unions of Barisal Sadar Upazila is 4 lakh 68 thousand 563 people. Among them 2 lakh 35 thousand 649 male voters. And 2 lakh 32 thousand 911 women voters. Third gender voters 3 people.
On the other hand, total voters in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal are 3 lakh 1 thousand 202 people. 1 lakh 52 thousand 975 male voters, 1 lakh 48 thousand 224 female voters. Third gender voters 3 people.
Polling will be held in Barisal Sadar and Bakerganj upazilas on May 8.
