Bangladesh team’s former spin bowling coach Rangana Herath has not renewed the contract. That is why the post of spin bowling coach of the Tigers was vacant for quite some time. However, BCB finalized the appointment for this post last week. Former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Bangladesh team by BCB.

And Mushtaq arrived in Bangladesh on Monday afternoon after receiving the responsibility. The former star leg spinner will start his campaign with the upcoming T20 series against Zimbabwe. The contract of the new spin coach of the Tigers has been fixed till the end of the 2024 T20 World Cup. This short format international tournament will be held in West Indies and USA next June.

Earlier, the 53-year-old former Pakistani star has handled the spin department of several national teams. Mushtaq Ahmed was the spin coach of England 2008-14, West Indies 2018-19 and Pakistan national team 2020-22. Besides, he was bowling consultant for Pakistan during 2014-16.

In the notification given by BCB, Mushtaq Ahmed said, ‘It is a great honor for me to be the spin bowling coach of the Bangladesh team. I am fully focused on my duties and want to spread the experience gained to the cricketers. I always believe they (Bangladesh) are one of the most feared teams in the world.’

Shakib Al Hasan’s new coach said with a confident voice about Bangladesh, ‘They can beat any team because they have the ability, resources and talent. I will try to spread my faith among them. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Bangladesh.’

It should be noted that Mushtaq Ahmed is one of the heroes of Pakistan’s only ODI World Cup victory in 1992. He played 144 ODIs in international cricket and took 161 wickets. Besides, this legspinner took 185 wickets after playing 52 Tests. However, Mushtaq’s international career did not end well due to injuries. However, Mushtaq showed his ability in first class cricket. He played 309 matches in first class cricket and took 1 thousand 407 wickets. He took four wickets 104 times in the innings, 10 wickets 32 times in the match.
