Dhaka: Referring to the zero tolerance on drugs, the High Court said that no sympathy will be shown to the accused in drug cases, irrespective of the length of their imprisonment.
Monday (April 22) Justice Md. The High Court bench of Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain made such comments.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state in the court.
Amin Uddin Manik said that bail applications were on the agenda in more than a hundred drug cases today. Then the court said that there is no bail or sympathy in drug cases, no matter how long the person is in jail. Drugs should be eradicated from the country. There will be zero tolerance for drugs.
Many of these hundreds of cases have been dismissed as not raised. And the rest were deleted (removed from the agenda) in view of the application of the lawyers. Most of these are yaba and heroin cases. And in the case of heroin, if it is more than 25 grams, the maximum sentence in the law is death penalty.
Among these cases, bail applicants in notable cases are – Shoaib Akhtar Limon of Rajshahi accused of recovering 205 grams of heroin in Tongi on June 23, 2022, Mahbubur Rahman Reagan accused of recovering 300 grams of heroin in Magura on December 24, 2023, Mehdi Hasan accused of recovering 50 grams of heroin in Manikganj on September 8, 2023. Musharraf, accused of recovering 500 grams of heroin in Kaliakore, Gazipur on July 5, 2023. Jasim, Amena Begum, accused of recovering 55 grams of heroin from the Krishi Market area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, Abdul Hannan, accused of recovering 40 grams of heroin in Rajshahi on 17 May 2023, Lokman Hossain Akash of Sherpur, accused of recovering 100 grams of heroin in Bogra on 27 May 2022, 100 in Mymensingh on 26 March 2019. Accused of recovering village heroin. Khalil, accused of recovering 200 grams of heroin in Gazipur on October 31, 2022 Mamun Mandal of Tangail, Azad accused of recovering 188 grams of heroin in Dhaka on October 13, 2022.
