The High Court has issued a ruling seeking to know why the bail given by the judicial court should not be canceled to seven persons including former parliamentarian and former secretary general of Bangladesh Major (retd) Abdul Mannan in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzlement.

A High Court Division Bench comprising of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain gave the order after hearing the application brought by the ACC seeking cancellation of their bail on Monday.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan was in favor of the application in the court. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Others who got bail in the judicial court in this case are Bangladesh Industrial Financial Company Limited (BIFC) former director AM Jahangir, Rais Uddin, Rokeya Ferdous, DMD Inamur Rahman, director AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and senior vice president Syed Fakhre Faisal.

On December 1, 2022, ACC Deputy Director Md. Abdul Majed filed this case against 12 people under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act at the integrated district office of the ACC.

Allegedly against them, the defendants in collusion with each other in the name of Razia Sultana of M/s Telecom Service Enterprise embezzled a total of Tk 9 crore 77 lakh 94 thousand 892 from BIFC by showing the approval and disbursement of the loan by transferring and converting the money.

In this case, the Senior Special Judge of Mahanagar granted them bail on March 7. Later, the ACC applied to the High Court to cancel the bail.
