Bangladesh did not publish daily news on the demand of detention of college teacher in an objectionable situation with a female student in Phulbari

Recently, the online edition of Jatiya Dainik Bangladesh Pratidin published a news on its website titled ‘College Teacher Arrested in Gangdhola for Offensive with Student at Phulbari’ and a screenshot of the said news was circulated on Facebook. There is also a picture of two (male and female) in the screenshot. However, the woman’s face is blurred through the edit.

According to Rumor Scanner team’s investigation, Bangladesh Pratidin did not publish any news under the title of “College teacher arrested in offensive situation with female student in Phulbari, mass laundering”, rather, the discussed screenshot was created with the screenshot of a report published by Bangladesh Pratidin in 2018 through editing with the help of digital technology.

Rumor Scanner did not find any news on Bangladesh Pratid’s website as claimed by searching the keyword at the beginning of the search. Also, by observing the picture, it can be seen that there is a mismatch between the font of the news published on the website of Bangladesh Pratid and the font of the picture circulated. Besides, in the news published online by Bangladesh Pratidin, the name (logo) of ‘Bangladesh Pratidin’, the year and date of the published news, headlines related to pictures are found to be inconsistencies.

Rumor Scanner found a report on Bangladesh Pratidin’s website on February 4, 2018 entitled ‘Nancy-Bashar’s ‘Watercolor’ on Love Day”. The claim discussed with this report matches the image in the screenshot attached.

The report says, ‘On the occasion of the upcoming Valentine’s Day, popular singer Nancy’s duet song ‘Jalrang’ is being released on February 5 (2018). The song is sung by young singer Bashar along with Nancy.

But this report did not mention any information about the claim in question.

Later, by searching for several different keywords, no information on ‘college teacher arrested in an offensive situation with a female student in flower bar, mass washing’ was found in other media.

Basically, a screenshot of the report published on Bangladesh Pratidin’s website under the title ‘College teacher arrested in offensive situation with female student in Phulbari, mass laundering’ has been circulated on social media Facebook. However, according to Rumor Scanner, Bangladesh has not published any such news daily. In fact, in 2018, the media edited screenshots of a different news story to promote the claim.

So, the screenshot published in the news claim of Bangladesh Pratid under the title ‘College teacher arrested in an objectionable situation with a female student in Phulbari’ has been edited or edited.
