Dhaka is ready to welcome the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He will visit Bangladesh on Monday afternoon. During this visit, six agreements and five memorandums of understanding will be signed between Bangladesh and Qatar regarding 11 cooperation.

Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud gave this information in a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Nazrul Islam and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sehli Sabrin were present at the press conference.

The foreign minister said that one of the six agreements is the prisoner exchange agreement.

He also said, ‘Through this visit, the relationship between Bangladesh and Qatar will reach a new height. This is the first high-level visit from the Middle East after the formation of the new government this year.

Apart from this, documents related to trade and investment, avoidance of double taxation, export of manpower will also be signed.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, global issues including Palestine-Israel will also be discussed, where Bangladesh will highlight its position.

The foreign minister said, ‘Naturally, this discussion can arise. The killing in Gaza must stop. Everyone wants it. We want too.’

While attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey last month, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmoud stressed the urgent need for concerted efforts to end the ongoing massacre in Gaza. At the same time, he emphasized on holding Israel accountable for crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing.

He said, ‘Bangladesh is for peace, not for war.’

The Emir of Qatar will come to Bangladesh on a two-day state visit on Monday at the invitation of the President of Bangladesh.

Through a gazette notice, the government announced Amir as a very important person during his two-day visit to Bangladesh.

On the occasion of the visit, some streets of Dhaka have been decorated with photos of the Emir of Qatar with the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

After almost 19 years, such a high-level visit lasting 24 hours from friendly country Qatar is taking place.

Earlier in April 2005, the then Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani visited Bangladesh.

The foreign minister said, “This visit will play a significant role in strengthening the fraternal relations between the two countries.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will receive Amir at her office on Tuesday morning.

President Sahabuddin will host a luncheon in honor of the Amir at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhavan.

A road and a park in the capital will be named after Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar.

He will inaugurate the park in Kalshi area of ​​Mirpur under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) at 3 pm on this day and the road from Mirpur ECB Chatter to Kalshi Flyover.

The Amir will hold a private meeting with members of the prominent business community where he is staying.

He is scheduled to leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a special flight at 6pm today.

The foreign minister will see him off at the airport.

Following the visit of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Bangladesh, Bangladesh and Qatar intend to further strengthen existing relations through greater cooperation in manpower, energy, trade and investment.

In March last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC-5) in Qatar’s capital Doha.

In the meeting, he urged Qatar to increase energy, especially LNG, to meet energy demand.

After the Second OIC Summit held in February 1974, Qatar recognized Bangladesh as a sovereign state on 4 March.

Bangladesh opened its diplomatic mission in Doha on 25 June 1975. In 1982, Qatar’s diplomatic mission was opened in Dhaka.

Bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Qatar are based on mutual respect, common values, common religious foundations, common culture and traditions.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, one of the key features of bilateral relations is people-to-people contact. More than 400,000 Bangladeshis work in Qatar and are admired for being dedicated and hardworking.

Bangladesh and Qatar consider each other as brotherly countries and important development partners in implementing Bangladesh’s Vision 2041 and Qatar’s Vision 2030.
