Thousands of Rohingyas want to flee to Bangladesh as the ongoing conflict in Myanmar intensifies. They have already gathered at the Bangladesh border. Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency confirmed this information citing a Rohingya leader.

In 2017, Myanmar’s military escalated years of persecution of the Rohingya population. Millions of Rohingya fled to Bangladesh to escape rape and massacre. Currently, more than 1 million Rohingyas are living in refugee camps in Bangladesh.

Recently, the military junta forces have been fighting fiercely with ethnic armed rebel groups in Myanmar. Rohingyas are once again fleeing to Bangladesh border to escape this conflict.

In an interview given to Anadolu, a Rohingya leader named Mohammad Noor Hashem said that Rohingyas are fleeing from Rakhine province due to violence. He said that 200 Rohingya have already crossed the Naf river in a small boat and reached the Bangladesh border.

Hashem said one of his nephews ran away from his home in Mangdu village. Can’t contact him after that. Rohingyas are forced to leave their homes due to the hot situation in Rakhine.

A Rohingya named Mohammad Rijuan Khan in Cox’s Bazar also confirmed to Anadolu that thousands of Rohingya are waiting to enter the Bangladesh border. He said that Rohingyas are coming to the border of Bangladesh in groups every day.

According to Anadolu’s report, Bangladesh is on alert at the border to prevent the influx of Rohingyas.

Additional Commissioner for Refugees and Repatriation in Cox’s Bazar, Abu Saleh Mohammad, told Anadolu that security forces are on alert at the border. They are ready to ensure security by preventing intrusion.
