Mohsin Sheikh is in charge of Bangladesh!

--

There was a storm of controversy surrounding Sri Lanka’s match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup in Lahore last year. At the end of that match, the Afghans lost the match without understanding the calculation, which caused a great stir at that time. And the person whose mistake caused such a big ‘catastrophe’ in Afghanistan, their computer analyst Mohsin Sheikh has now got the permanent responsibility of the Bangladesh national team. He was given part-time duty for the Tigers’ tour of New Zealand after missing out on the Afghans last year. The analyst, based in Brisbane, Australia, was quickly linked with the Tigers. Now Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed him for two years. He will start working as a performance analyst for the Bangladesh national team on a full-time basis from the upcoming series against Zimbabwe. Jalal Yunus, head of BCB’s cricket management department, confirmed the matter to Daily Manavzamin. He said, ‘Yes, we have appointed Mohsin Sheikh for two years. Tomorrow (today) he will come to Bangladesh.

Join the team. He will start working ceremonially from the series against Zimbabwe.

Although the Asia Cup ended 7 months ago, he is known to Afghans as the hero of the Afghanistan-Sri Lanka group stage match. The team would get a place in the Super Four if they won that match. But the winning team reached the shore and drowned. That too not by giving away wickets, but by miscalculating the net run rate. For which Mohsin Sheikh was fully responsible. Because his job is to check the mathematical details of the match. But since he could not give the correct information, Mohammad Nabi-Rashid Khan, who was on the way to victory, had to pay the price for that mistake. On the other hand, his introduction to Bangladesh cricket was for Chittagong Challengers in the ninth season of BPL. He served as the team’s analyst. But in the end he was dismissed by the Challengers franchise due to breaking party discipline. Then last year he worked for BPL’s Khulna Tigers in the 10th season. Over the years, he has developed an affinity with Tiger Cricket.

After working on a temporary contract during the tour of New Zealand last year, Mohsin Sheikh got the responsibility of the performance analyst of the Bangladesh team on a full-time basis. He will work with Nazmul Hossain Shanto Force for the next two years. About his appointment, Jalal Yunus also said, ‘He has worked with us before. This time a two-year contract has been signed with him.

The five-match T20 series will begin on May 3 at Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Zimbabwe cricket team will come to Bangladesh next Sunday. The first three matches of the series are in Chittagong. The last two will be in Mirpur. It is known that the contract with Mohsin is from 1st May 2024 to 30th April 2026. Bangladesh has not had a permanent analyst since last year’s World Cup. Former national cricketer Nasir Ahmed served as an analyst in the Test series against New Zealand at home.

Mohsin Sheikh has long experience as an analyst. In the 2003-04 season, he started working with age-based teams at the National High Performance Center of Pakistan. Then he migrated to Australia. Mohsin got citizenship of that country due to work. He has worked with several teams in the Big Bash League. This Australian of Pakistani origin was with Rajasthan Royals in 2009 IPL. He also worked in PSL at different times. Before Bangladesh, he last worked for Afghanistan national team. He was an analyst for Afghanistan in last year’s Asia Cup and World Cup. Jalal Yunus, however, said that Mohsin Sheikh was given the responsibility considering his experience. As he has been in this job for many years, he has a strong understanding of cricketers from almost all countries. Although he refused to open his mouth about the mistakes he made while being an analyst for Afghanistan!
