Imam died in Jaintapur, Sylhet on his way to the mosque due to lightning. The incident took place at Lakshmiprasad Patan Tikarpara Jame Masjid area of upazila around 4 am on Sunday (April 21).
His name is Imam Hafiz Kabir Ahmad (35). He is the son of Ebadur Rahman of Sonataula village of Barchatul union of Kanaighat upazila.
Locals said that Kabir Ahmad was going to pray in the mosque from the lodging house during heavy rain in the morning. He was killed by lightning before reaching the mosque. After the rain stopped, the worshipers on their way to Fajr prayer saw Imam’s body lying on the ground beside the road.
Chairman of Charikata UP in this regard. Sultan Karim said, I will immediately inform the Jaintapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). Later the police came and recovered the body.
In this regard, Jaintapur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Umm Salik Rumaiya said, legal proceedings are underway after the body has been recovered. The upazila administration has provided support of 25 thousand taka to the Imam’s family.
