Only ripe boro paddy covers the vast agricultural land. Around the smell of mou mou paddy, the smile of satisfaction on the face of the farmer. The Haor-Baor area of Sylhet is like a yellow sheet of ripe rice. The busyness has started to take home the ripe paddy. Somewhere harvesting of paddy is going on, somewhere with preparation and waiting for name in the field. Many people from the city have come to remote villages to harvest paddy. Farmers want to finish harvesting rice before unexpected natural calamities. Sheela rains, thunderstorms and rain events and weather forecasts have made their minds anxious. This time, there was no incident of breaking the dam as there was no continuous heavy rain in the month of Pahari Dhal and Baisakh. As the weather is more favorable than last year, there has been a bumper crop of boro rice in Sylhet.

The Sylhet Agriculture Extension Department says that 35 percent of paddy harvesting has already been completed in Haor and 5 percent outside Haor. In the next 2 weeks, 90% of the paddy will be harvested. Agriculture stakeholders expect that the remaining will be completed by May 15. Because technology has solved the lack of labor crisis. Harvester and reaper machines are being used day and night for harvesting paddy in Howar. As a result, labor crisis could not be the cause of disruption. The harvester machine has cut the paddy and threshed it immediately and cleaned the straw completely. In this, the farmers are saving money by harvesting paddy in less time.

According to the farmers, last year they faced a lot of losses due to natural calamities. But this year the yield is good as the weather is favourable. Despite the labor crisis, harvester machines have made paddy harvesting much easier. However, in some areas, rice of Bri-28 variety has been affected by blast disease.
According to the information of the District Agricultural Extension Office, this year the target level of cultivation in Sylhet district was set at 85 thousand 850 hectares. But 87 thousand 450 hectares have been cultivated than the target. Goainghat Upazila Agriculture Officer Raihan Parvez Roni said that the target level of boro rice has been set in Goainghat Upazila on 3 thousand 880 hectares this year. Already, 44% paddy harvesting has been completed in haors and 4% in common land of this upazila. If the weather is favorable, the rest of the paddy harvesting will be completed within the next two weeks.

Sylhet Agriculture Extension Department Additional Deputy Director (PP) Mohammad Anichuzzaman said that if there is no natural calamity and rice can be brought home on time, there will be a record production in the borough this year. If everything goes well, Boro rice production target will be released in Sylhet.
