Cancer-stricken actor Oliul Haque passed away while undergoing treatment at Rumi Hospital.

Apan Ahsan, his one-time theater team colleague, said that Rumi was admitted to Ibnesina Hospital in Dhaka. He died there around 4 am on Monday.

“After being diagnosed with cancer, he went to India for treatment a month ago. He also received treatment in a hospital in Dhaka. All efforts failed.”

Rumi has been acting for more than three decades. He acted in many dramas and movies during this long journey. The news of his death cast a shadow of grief among his colleagues. Many mourned the actor on Facebook.

Actress Farzana Chumki wrote on Facebook, “Rumi bhai is finally gone. Goodbye. The first phone that used to ring on my birthday was yours. That call will not come again. Rumi bhai who will be jealous of Sabbir (actor Mir Sabbir). Forgive bhai. .”

Actor Ziaul Farooq Apoorva wrote, “Television drama popular face Oliul Haque Rumi bhai passed away some time ago. Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajioon. Everyone pray for him.”

Actress Rokeya Prachi wrote, “Goodbye Rumi Bhai. It’s time for my first serial ‘Selai Parivar’ drama directed by me. May God grant you heaven.”

Rumi started acting in 1988 with the play ‘Ekhno Kritdas’ at Theater Bailey Road. In the same year, he made his debut on the small screen with the play ‘Kon Kanan Phool’.

Suggestion Salim, Dhaka Metro Love, Bokasoka Trio, Dhaka to Barisal, American Saheb, Sonar Shikal, Comedy 420 Makeup Man, President Sirajuddaula are some of his notable dramas.

Apart from television, he also acted in movies. In 2009, Rumi acted for the first time in the film ‘Dariapar Daulati’.
