The European Parliament relies on investigations by member states’ own authorities to prevent espionage, an EU Parliament spokesman said in a statement.

The spokeswoman said the EU parliament took seriously accusations against European politicians that they helped promote the Kremlin. He said that the issue of China’s intervention is also being looked at seriously

Meanwhile, Belgian Prime Minister Crowe and Czech Republic Prime Minister Petar Fiala wrote in a letter that more coordination between EU member states is necessary to reduce the impact of Russia’s activities. Besides, they also suggested to impose more restrictions if necessary. They said to look into whether the recently formed ‘European Public Prosecutors Office’ can judge these activities.

Despite increased cooperation on counter-terrorism among EU member states, intelligence sharing is still considered an internal matter.

PISM official Elsbieta Casa feels there is room for improvement in this regard. In this case, he thinks that the European Union External Action Service, the agency working on the EU’s foreign policy, can be used.
