Russian presidential election in March 2024. Vladimir Putin has announced his candidacy in this election as well. And electing Putin means he will be in power until 2030. Because the Kremlin chief thinks he has to steer Russia through its most dangerous period in decades. The news agency Reuters reported this information citing six sources.

Putin has moved to shore up the support of his core base in the armed forces and security forces, along with regional voters outside Moscow, after quashing an armed insurgency led by his brother-in-law Prigoshin in June. Bhagnar is strongly suppressed in this.

Russian defense, weapons and overall budget spending have increased while Putin has made several public appearances in recent months, including in the regions. “The decision has been made – he will run (the country),” a source familiar with the plan told Reuters.

Another source told Reuters a decision had been made and Putin’s advisers were preparing for his participation. Three other sources said it has been decided to contest the presidential election in March 2024.

The sources spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of Kremlin politics.

A choreographed gesture was due to arrive within weeks, one of them said, confirming a report in the Kommersant newspaper last month.

Although many diplomats, spies and officials have said they expect Putin to remain in power for life, there has been no concrete confirmation of Putin’s plans to run for re-election.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin had yet to comment on the matter. Not officially announced yet.

Vladimir Putin is the longest-serving president since Joseph Stalin. Still he is unwilling to leave power.
